A Circumnavigation of the Baltic Sea (contra-clockwise)
We touched down in nine seaports and eight islands. Eight on these countries were new to me: Denmark, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Russia, Finland, Sweden.
I traveled aboard on the National Geographic ship Explorer. This expedition was in the last two weeks of May, 2013. Thus ship is owned by Lindblad Expeditions. There is room for 148 passengers and 104 staff. The Explorer has a cruising speed of 15 knots and super speed of 16.5 knots.
Besides good companionship, good food and booze, there was the excellent professional staff. There were four National Geographic photographers, two historians; two “bone” people (a.k.a. archaeologists), naturalists and bird people. There were also three guest speakers: Trivimi Velliste, member of the Estonia government, Lech Walesa, Poland, and Don Walsh, captain of Bathyscaph Trieste.
As I am not a good writer, so I will let my images speak for themselves.
